Youth Baseball in Louisiana Continuing to Impress after Week 5 in the Select Series!

Recap of Week 5 of the South Select Series: Leaderboards, Games Recaps, Top Performances, & More.

The 11u, 12u, and 13u Divisions duked it out in Lafayette and Crowley this past weekend for the Select Series. An awesome atmosphere made for some great youth baseball games and movements within the GameChanger leaderboards and stats.

Game Recaps:

• The bats were rolling early on Saturday between 337 Baseball & Ascension Select, totaling 25 hits combined in a tight matchup. 337 Baseball 11u stayed in it until the end, but Ascension Select 11u pulled away late in a 14-8 victory on Saturday. The game was tied at four with Ascension Select 11u batting in the top of the fourth when Kasey Decoteau hit an inside-the-park homerun on a 1-2 count, scoring two runs. Ascension Select 11u got things moving in the first inning, when Carson Lacombe doubled, scoring one run. 337 Baseball 11u notched three runs in the third inning. 337 Baseball 11u's offense in the inning came from a triple by Parker Froehilch, a single by Jack Joubert, and a double by Mason Gonzales. Ascension Select 11u scored eight runs in the fifth inning. The offensive firepower by Ascension Select 11u was led by Maddox Estilette, Cooper Templet, Pyke Elisar, Semaj Brown, Grady Templet, and Graham Morgan, who each had RBIs in the inning.

• Ascension Rays 12u sealed the game late in the 5th inning against Knights Knation New Orleans (Schexnayder/Frederick) 12u to win 4-3 on Sunday. The game was tied at three with Ascension Rays 12u batting in the bottom of the fifth when Anden Millett singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run. Ascension Rays 12u earned the victory despite allowing Knights Knation New Orleans (Schexnayder/Frederick) 12u to score three runs in the fourth inning. Knights Knation New Orleans (Schexnayder/Frederick) 12u big bats were led by Cullin Caminita, Brennan Melancon, and Nicolas Williams, who each had RBIs in the inning. Ultimately, it was the suicide squeeze by Anden to score Brock Koontz that won the game for the Rays. Thomas Roussel closed out the game in the 6th.

• A masterful performance by Cooper Austin propelled the Knights Knation Baton Rouge (Jordan) 12u to another perfect weekend after beating the Louisiana Barons 18-0. Cooper pitched 5.0 innings (CG) with 10 strikeouts, 1 hit, 0 walks , 0 runs in 54 pitches. He had a perfect game through 4.2 IP. With great defense behind him, the Knights were able to shutout the Barons. The Knights tallied 12 hits in the game -- Henry Massey (HR & 1B), Haden Heath (1B, 2B, & 3B), and Dekohta Jones (1B & 2B) all tallied multiple hits.

• Hitters hit, and that's just what Rhett Boeckmann does. Ascension Sun Devils 13u walked it off against Ripzz Baseball Academy 13u 9-8 on Sunday. The game was tied at eight with Ascension Sun Devils 13u batting in the bottom of the fifth when Rhett Boeckmann put the ball in play to drive in Aidan W with 2 outs to win the game. Ascension Sun Devils 13u got things started when Aidan Womack hit an inside-the-parker on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs. Ripzz Baseball Academy 13u scored four runs in the fourth inning. Ripzz Baseball Academy 13u's big inning was driven by singles by Easton Benesta, Ashton Hughes, and Kyson Reeves and a groundout RBI by Carson Ducate. However, Ascension Sun Devils 13u tallied seven hits in the game. Cooper Williams and Aidan Womack all managed multiple hits for Ascension Sun Devils 13u.
